Once you get the hang of it hell, it's not even that hard to pretend you aren't doing crimes. The kids even provide a bit of a cover, since you're such a devoted caretaker. You keep on doing crimes and making money until you've built one of the most successful criminal enterprises in the area. You don't ever sit the kids down to talk to them about crime. It's just normal to them. And the kids are really smart, with good instincts. They pick up the unspoken rules of crime quickly, and they understand them better than you ever did. They eventually become involved in a lot of your criminal activities, and their participation makes the whole thing all the more lucrative and worthwhile.
Then, one day, the kids sit you down to have a talk about crime.
"The fact is," they tell you, "at this point you're just holding us back. We'd like you to retire and leave all the criminal enterprises to us."
