The doctor tells you a story

The cell door opens and the doctor enters, his tin smile giving you the most uncomfortable feeling you've ever experienced. You try to suppress it, but it is all too obvious that this dude gives you the creeps.

"No need to be startled, I assure you. This is a routine evaluation. May I sit?" the doctor asks, politely waiting for you to reply.

You motion to a chair, eyeing him warily.

"Thank you. I see from your report that the admitting officers seem to think you are a delusional person. Do you think you're delusional?"

"No, I'm not. Alternative science is not the same as madness," you shoot back. "This is a total infringement of my rights."

"I can see how you might feel that way. Once upon a time, I was much like you: boldly defying the consensus, bravely facing opposition to my psychiatric theories."

"Really?" you ask, finding yourself more at ease with this doctor.

"Oh yes. I was hardly committed for my ideas, but they were, shall we say, considered a little too radical for some of my peers. You see, I was student to a certain theory that all madness can be traced back to a physical cause. Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Henry Cotton?"

  1. You encourage the doctor to continue with his story
  2. You find this story to be a bit too familiar
  3. You snort and ridicule the doctor's weird theory
  4. You question the doctor's theory with an intelligence that startles him
  5. You are less interested in his story than you are in telling your own
  6. You attack the doctor and try to force him to help you escape
