You sit there like the cop said. The car idles. The scene outside is still chaos as your father's Jeep bursts into flames. The cop who was searching it yelps and leaps back with the left arm of his uniform on fire. He runs in a circle yelling until he remembers to stop, drop, and roll.
"Fifteen, sixteen, seventeen," says Duncan, and then looks at you in the rear-view mirror. "Close your eyes, NOW," he says, and shuts his eyes tight.
