Just because you are showing restraint in your specimen collection doesn't mean you can't indulge yourself a little bit. You're being so ecologically responsible right now that you figure you deserve a little pick-me-up. You scrape some eggs off of a nearby leaf and mash them up into a paste. It dries out really quickly in the sun and you cut a fat line and snort it right up.
Wow you're really going now! The colors get even brighter and you're struck with a powerful rush of energy that makes you feel like you could go for days and days! But you're not so carried away that you can't remember your primary mission. You've got to get back to the lab and start working with these eggs. Your future as a millionaire interplanetary drug baron is so close and so real that you can almost see it. These bugs are incredible. What the whole world has been waiting for!
The path back to the portal to Earth is shimmering and visible below your feet and you hear the song of the world singing in your ears all around you. The trees and flowers smile and shine! The portal looms before you but it isn't just a sheet of light anymore. You can see the math that makes it work. You think you could build one yourself!
You step into the portal and lights and colors surround you. You appear back on the landing pad on Earth, surrounded by security guards with automatic rifles. You try to run, but you can't! The eggs in your pocket reacted with your physiology in the portal and turned you into a twitching heap of alien insect parts and eyeballs and goo. You spend the rest of your terrible life being biopsied by robots and some government sons of bitches get rich off of your discovery.
The End
