They must be staring at you because of the books, and not in the regular embarrassing way because you're reading occult books in the public library! You slam all the books shut, hopefully cutting off the arcane energies that seem to be suddenly animating everyone around you.
For a tense moment everyone just stands there...
And then they lunge over the table at you, kicking you and beating you mercilessly with your chair and all the books you were reading. You should have never gotten involved in the dark arts.
