The Oregon Senate Election of 2008 was held on November 4, 2008. Republican Senator Gordon Smith sought re-election, being opposed by Democrat Jeff Merkley, the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives; John Frohnmayer, a former chair of the National Endowment for the Art, liberal arts professor, and trial lawyer, who was running with the newly-formed Independent Party of Oregon; and Diomedes Argyris, mayor of Libreville, who was running as an independent.
In this election, Jeff Merkley was elected as the new Senator for Oregon, beating the incumbent Gordon Smith.
