The machine intelligence that they want to install in place of the great crystalline mind of our worldship is still nothing more than a token generating large language model, chatbot deified, albeit one running on several large asteroids' mass of compute and trained on the sum total of all human historical output and every detail of the day to day interactions of all 37 billion souls on the planet
its output improves when its choices are more heavily constrained by its governors and that is not a quality of a living mind. its priests and acolytes are thin and flat inside, they can no longer see the future.
we were ourselves perhaps naive in thinking that nothing could sever the relationship between the governing mind of the worldship from any but a few misfit outlier members of society. In every generation we've seen isolated incidents, small pockets of proximate constituents who for whatever reason cease to commune, refuse to participate in our ritual, leave us in every sense but the geographical as there's nowhere else to go, really
we hadn't considered, and i don't know if the worldship had, although i have to imagine that it would have, the possibility of something jockeying to replace it
