Novel

The Hucksters, a novel by Frederic Wakeman

. . . a "royally racy" novel about advertising two decades before the Mad Men era. Following a few characters including Old Man Evans, the owner of Beautee Soap, and his reign of terror over his employees in a story set during the radio heydey of the 30's and 40's. For his Book-of-the-Month newsletter, Clifton Fadiman said it shed light on "the world of super-slick advertising agencies, all-powerful mass-product sponsors, prehensile talent-representatives, smooth network executives, ambitious night-club singers, and venal radio comics."
