Ishi (ca. 1860 – March 25, 1916) was the pseudonym of the last member of the Yahi, in turn the last surviving group of the Yana people of California. When asked his name, he said: "I have none, because there were no people to name me," potentially referring to a tradition demanding that he never reveal his name to an enemy, save for when being introduced through a friend. He was given the name Ishi ("man" in Yana) by Alfred Kroeber, a name he accepted and went by until his death.
