It attacks you!

You put the creature into the boat as you reach for your big fishing knife. The creature is the size of a full grown cat and it has branch and vine like appendages. The thing starts vibrating violently. The boat rocks dangerously in the water. You stab at it and the bug lets forth a stunning blast of toxic gas. You are choking, unable to catch a breathe. You fall into the water and find your arms and legs starting to freeze up. You drown in the water while the creature chew through the fishing line and plunges back into the depths. No human sees this animal again for another eight years.
