Ghost Day

Known as Ghost Day, Spirit Day, the Hungry Ghost Festival (Yú lán pén 盂兰盆), Mid-Year Festival (zhōng yuán jié 中元节), held on the 15th day (Full Moon) of the 7th lunar (Ghost) month. One makes offerings to ease the sufferings of ancestors, including Hell money, paper goods, food, and incense at the ancestral shrine. Paper flags are hung over doorways to keep out the hungry ghosts.
