Elephant Street is one of the three main "business" streets in Libreville. It runs from the Libreville Apex Shopping Plaza (south-east entrance), down across the intersection, straight to Iljunfant Park, passing St. Regina High School. It is a popular storefront street, featuring a range of different businesses, cafes, and other local concerns.
The name was given to it following a rare circus appearance in the early days of the town, during which an elephant escaped and ran down the street, disappearing into the park, never to be seen again.
