The valuga root is an uncommon root, native to the Ketjack area of Oregon, that is believed to have been cultivated extensively by the Infictites of prehistoric Oregon. The plant was ritually used by native Americans of the area, including the Crumpatako, until the mid-to-late 1800s when missionaries engaged in a campaign to wipe the plant off the face of the earth; these missionaries were one of the groups that later went on to spawn the OFTL.
Little is known about the alkaloids found in the plant because so few remains have been found, and the few that have been could not be confirmed to be real valuga. According to available records, the root was said to have had energizing hunger inhibiting properties. Chewed in large doses it caused heat flashes, fainting spells, and, most importantly, visions.
The visions are why it was mostly wiped out by the temperance missionaries: white boys started chewing the root themselves, and worse, brewing strong teas of it and smoking it in pipes, driving them to wildness and violence. The natives themselves never smoked it, saying that smoking the root inflames the mind into visions of darkness and brings only destructive outcomes.
