"You shall know me by this sign."

A spread of meats; haunches of white, lobster-looking chicken. A woman, slightly older, posing, unafraid, nicks a long piece from a Korean man. Three of us, we sit there at the table, and I begin to list off the conditions of chicken factories to the eaters. They continue to eat, giving me an eye.

"Why are you doing this?" they ask.

I just snicker, offering nothing reassurances. The girl of our trio insists that I go with her, so I get up, so we go off. She's jubliant, asking me if I was really going to kill them. I tell her no, but I'm not certain that is very convincing to her.

We walk down a short hall, maybe the interior of a shopping mall or university, and into a library. Large, well-lit, many rows, tables in the way. The visuals appear drunken, erratic. We eventually find our way to her small room, having stopped a few times along the way. One door with a table and chairs blocking the way in. 2010? Her's is right after it. 2012.

Inside, eyes over the room. Note she has her computer running. A message in progress, dropped at the last minute. Something about "girllllzzz" in the name. She quickly back spaces it out when I go to look closer.

Her phone has been off the hook, or just calling constantly. A message on the other end is annoyed; a man, annoyed about not knowing her location, or just about the calls. An answering machine, not hers. She listens to the phone for a moment before hanging it up.

The room is a mess. A small exercise machine folded down on the floor, clothes and books piled up. Her bed is small, just a mattress with a box spring, some covers and pillows thrown over it. I look out the window, dark, a giant tree obscuring any view of the outside. It goes all the way down to the ground, however far that may be, and all the way up beyond my view.

I step back, laying myself on the bed. She asks me about the Ten Laws, the Ten Signs, something like that; it's all apocalyptic gobble-dee-goop. She sits on me, legs over mine, and looks down at me, starting to tell me about the First of the Laws/Signs.

"You shall know me by this sign."

The House, and the Shadow it casts having more importance to the Image. The House itself is less important than the Shadow.
