You walk down the hall holding the gun out ready to shoot anyone who threatens. Someone threatens. A guy in a lizard mask jumps from around a corner and you shoot him in the chest. He falls holding the wound as you walk by like you have all the time in the world. You don't know or care how bad the man is hurt. He was holding a knife. You have it in your other hand now. The hall ends with a stairway up and a stairway down.
