August 23rd, 1989 - November 22nd, 2017 K. D. Laing was studying to be a behavioral scientist when E broke into the country music scene with hir breakaway album High Lonesome Consumption. At first the new darling of the country music scene, hir political stance on vegetarianism along with the revelation that E was a hermaphrodite from birth and was demanding the right to be married to both a man and a woman ("One for Each Genital", as the newspaper articles read) was enough to shut hir out of the Nashville scene. The highly public assassination of K D Laing sent shockwaves through the alternative community, and political pundits latched on to hir case as indicative of the double-standards inherent in the marriage institutions in the United States.
