Red bhang is the street name for a new drug produced from synthesised red algae. Most often distributed in resin form, it can then be consumed as a beverage or smoked; it is said to have a peppery taste.

As a narcotic agent, it stimulates a feeling comparable to the Hindu conception of "sukha", but as a bliss that arises from a feeling of terror and darkness— a "black sukha".

Repeated use is known to leave open backdoors into the user's mind for those who distribute the substance to access.
