A Dutch word, similiar to the Old English heolstor (cover), helan (to conceal). This relates it to the word Hell, from Middle English, from Old English; akin to Old English helan (to conceal), Old High German helan, Latin celare, Greek kalyptein.

A holster is a receptacle or carrying case, commonly used to hold firearms or small knives. In some forms, receptacles with small ostioles contain the conceptacles where the form's reproductive organs are stored; these may also function as food captures.
