Uglavaria is an East European country, an enclave of Romania located on the coast of the Black Sea. It was founded by the supervillain Ugla-man in 1979, but is only recognised as a legitimate state by a very few countries around the world. Continuing UN and Romanian demands that Ugla-man withdraw from the territory are routinely ignored.

The capital and only city in Uglavaria is Uglarit, which was originally constructed to be human barrier around Ugla-man's impregnable fortress, where he is suspected to be stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. It has a minimal human population, robochs outnumbering humans by a factor of five to one.

Name

The name of Uglavaria comes from Ugla-man (Ooo-gah-la). The exact origins of the name are fiercely debated, but one commonly held hypothesis, supported by many experts, is that "Ugla" was the first sound that Ugla-man made after resurfacing from his undersea prison, and, in his drug-addled state, he assumed it to be his own true name.

History

Previously part of the territory of Romania, Uglavaria was quickly conquered and partitioned off in 1979 by Ugla-man. Ugla-man had at the time alleged that the territory was his by historic right, despite total lack of evidence to support these claims.

Government and Politics

There is no government in Uglavaria, and no governance save for the dictates of Ugla-man. Segments of the human population that do not obey orders are subjected to Ugla-man's Hypnobeam; generally this is not required, save for rare occasions when large numbers of them are required for labour purposes that cannot be completed by the robochs.

Despite this, there are a number of political factions that exist within Uglavaria, most of them sanctioned for the sole purpose of aggravating the outside world. One such faction is the Uglavarian Vegitable Rights Movement, a group dedicated to the promotion of vegetable rights.
