A source of nourishment, like most other internal organs and forms of offal, widely considered to be a delicacy. Nutritionally, the important omega-3 fatty acid, DHA (22:6), is found concentrated in mammalian brains; 3 oz. (85 g) of cooked brain contains up to 730 mg of DHA! As small children need at least 150 mg of DHA per day, and pregnant and lactating women 300 mg of DHA, you can plainly see that eating brains is one of the easiest ways of absorbing the required fatty acid. However, be warned, the brain is very high in cholesterol and may contain prions, and so should be consumed only in moderation.
